Composition and composers

What is a composition? In music, a composition is any song we write, or “compose.” We can make up (“compose”) a song as simply as writing down the letters of the Solfa notes (or coloring a dot with the color of the note) on a piece of paper. You can also write down a song using the first letter of each Solfa note in a line. Lastly, once we have learned the black notes that you see on typical piece of sheet music, you can write the song using musical notation on a musical staff. There are lots of cool tools that people use to notate music digitally, too!

A composer is anyone who writes a song. YOU become a composer when you write a song!
